Why did Britain & France declare war on Germany in September 1939?
In 1935 Germany started the conscription and re-armament protocol, Britain and France new about was was happening in germany, they were regaining power, they let Hitler get away with it. March 7, 1936, with only 20,000 men Germany regained control of the Rhineland, this directly violated the Treaty of Versailles and still Britain and France did nothing about it. March 11, 1938, after Hitler encourage the people from Austria to demand a union. Hitler took advantage of the people demanding in the streets to invade Austria, this also violated the Treaty of Versailles, but still no one did nothing. March 15, 1939, Germany’s army marched into the rest of Czechoslovakia after Chamberlain appeased Hitler and gave him the Sudetenland. It was then that Britain and France realized that the only thing that would stop Hitler was war. April 1939, Chamberlain makes official the “Polish Guarantee”, in which guaranteed to the Polish that if Hitler invaded poland they would declare war. September 1, 1939, Germany invades Poland. September 3, 1939, Britain and France declare war against Germany.
